Christmas Dreams

Christmastime.

In all honesty, I have a love/hate relationship with Christmas. Because it’s the end of the year and it’s filled with down-time to reflect, the memories come flooding. There are lots of painful memories associated with Christmas over the years.

But with reflection comes restoration, correction, and redirection. Christmas sometimes feels like a breath of fresh air as I pray over where God wants to take me for the next year. The possibilities are endless and I know they will be surprising. It’s a hopeful time as I ponder what in the world God could possibly be up to if He’s brought me this far.

One of the gifts I received this year was a scratch off map to document the places I’ve travelled to.

In 26 years I’ve been to 18 countries and countless states in the United States. That number feels like a lot, but in the grand scheme of the world, it looks so tiny.

I have two thoughts on this:

1) Sometimes, this is what following the Lord looks like. When things happen in our life [confession, redemption, freedom, direction, dreams coming true etc.] they feel so big. And yet, no matter how big those moments are, the Father still has so much more in store for us. He is not done yet. He still wants to give us things that are immeasurably more than we could ever dream up.

2) Sometimes the actions of His children can seem small or insignificant in the world. They might fly under the radar, or not be “big enough” for praise. But they’re not insignificant in the Kingdom of God.

For example:

  • 11 if those countries, I spent away from my family for a year so I could be the hands and feet of Christ. I travelled with 40 strangers who became like family as we worshipped Him and did ministry together.
  • One of those countries I travelled to so I could visit a friend abroad and love on her.
  • Two of them I travelled to so I could study abroad and learn more history of the world.
  • The other countries and states because they were memories with family or friends.

All of these adventures have made me who I am today. On my scratch off map they might seem small, but they are mighty to be used for the King in whatever way He pleases.
